On Friday, December 2, the Jackies Chapter of The Vintage Ladies enjoyed a luncheon at the Reserve Club to celebrate the holidays. The Chapter donated money to a family in need as their holiday gift. The photographs show that the room was beautifully decorated and a good time was had by all!

The November activity was rescheduled to December 9th. Many of the Jackies came to the Southport Presbyterian Church to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings from Amani Beads, which are made by local women in Kenya. 100% of the money raised by purchasing the beads, supports two orphanages in Kenya. Southport Presbyterian Church has sponsored these children for years and watched their developmental progress.

Trip to Poplar Grove Plantation. On Friday, May 6, twelve Jackies explored the Poplar Grove Plantation Manor House and grounds. We learned about the mansion and history of the family in a very informative guided tour. We saw fourteen beautifully restored rooms filled with antiques, artwork, a delightful doll house in the children’s room, and other period furnishings. After the tour, the group explored many of the restored outbuildings on the grounds. The basket weaving building and shop was a big hit. Many of our members went home with handmade baskets of unusual shapes. We ended our trip with a fun lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the Poplar Grove Plantation.
On Friday, March 4th the Jackies visited the Wrightsville Beach Museum in Wilmington.
Our knowledgeable docent escorted us throughout the Museum which is housed within the Meyers 1909 Cottages.
After our “education” we socialized and had a yummy lunch at Blue Water Grill on the Marina. Very fun day!
Eleven Jackie’s met Friday, October 2, at the Woodlands Amphitheater. It was a beautiful day sitting by the lake and catching up with one another. After 7 months of COVID confinement, ladies shared stories of their activities, including new skills they’d developed, crafts and art projects, playing cards via Zoom and other online venues as well as repurposing and creating new items from ones no longer wanted.
We also featured the 100th year celebration of Women’s Right to Vote using the Women’s Suffrage article provided by Pat Dashiell in her August newsletter to the Vintage Ladies Chapters. We then taxed our memories with a question-quiz activity with prizes for most correct answers.
