Over 30 Abbies gathered for a Holiday Brunch
Hope you’re enjoying this wonderful spring weather, interspersed with an occasional reminder that winter is still infrequently rearing its ugly head.
I have been reviewing our incoming officers for 2022-2023. I’m looking forward to co-chairing the chapter with Barbara McConaghie and working with the officers who are returning.
Thanks to Vicki Lauziere for stepping up to serve on the Program Committee. The committee is really the heart of the Abbies. We look forward to fun and interesting programs, both inside the bubble and outside.
We need two ladies to volunteer to work with Vicki. The Program Committee from last year has offered to share ideas they had, but were unable to use thanks to COVID. They are experienced leaders and will be a big help to the incoming committee.
Consider joining Vicki as we prepare for another wonderful year of Vintage Ladies. If you would like to serve on this committee, please contact me. We need to have our roster of officers filled by April 1. Looking forward to a fun year with so many new members! Being an officer is always the path to feeling more involved in any organization!
Vintagely yours,

Dear Abbies,
We had a wonderful speaker about the Gullah Geechee culture in January and so glad that many of you were able to attend. The recipe for the Gullah Benne Wafers should be on the website by now.
Below is the upcoming program for February with the details about how to reply. Liz Fuller is well known in local circles for her historical programs, so I’m sure you will want to attend.
We also have our new yearbooks. If you didn’t pick one up at the January meeting, they will be available at the February meeting.

Do not miss the chance to hear the story of everyday love and war in Southport during WWII. It is an honor to have Historian Liz Fuller present a story of actual life and death in Southport as you learn about our history.
What was life in Southport like during World War II? How did the town transform into a military town, nearly overnight? This presentation tells the history of WWII through the lives of Southport's Greatest Generation. Hear how they not only overcame challenges but also discovered love and meaning, leaving a legacy that can be seen and felt in Southport to the present day.
*This presentation will include some popular wartime recipes, so bring your notepads. We will go back in time. All chapters are invited.

The Abbies November program was a fascinating and entertaining history lesson about Trinity Methodist Church on Nash Street in Southport. The Pastor, Stuart Milton and two church members spoke to us about the church's interior architecture, the moving of the original building, dating back to the early 1800's which is now the home of the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, in Southport, and the history
