Dear Vintage Ladies
Happy Summer !
I hope you have all enjoyed a warm and wonderful summer! As the season draws to a close, I hope you are all as excited about getting together and returning to Vintage Ladies as I am!
We will begin the year with a joint meeting of all Abbies, Dolleys, and Jackies on September 10th where Susan Harman will teach us how to utilize our convenient website. The website is filled with lots of details about our activities, both past and future, as well as information about our members.
After September, there are many interesting meetings planned by each chapter’s Program Committee. These ladies have been busy all summer and have some terrific activities and presentations in store for us! Many thanks to them!
Learning how to navigate the website at our September meeting will help you gather information all year long from the Vintage Ladies website and find out more about the upcoming meetings and programs!
If you are like me, you have many new neighbors who may be interested in joining Vintage Ladies. Please talk to them about our interesting group and extend to them an invitation to join Vintage Ladies. You can submit their name and phone number or email to our Membership Chair, Pat Dashiell at pdashiell@yahoo.com who will follow through with the new member for all the needed information.
I am privileged to have the opportunity to serve as Executive Chair this year and am looking forward to working with all of you.
Sincerely,
Jeannie Schneider
Executive Chair
So here we are heading into Fall and returning to normal is still a bit down the road. Don’t give up hope!
Our September meeting was supposed to take the place of our June installation luncheon which honors and thanks past officers and welcomes the new. Unfortunately, this has also been canceled.
Since we still do not know when our Vintage Ladies will be able to meet again, I asked Susan Harman to help me find a way to introduce our new and past officers. She has put together a wonderful pdf presentation of images of these special ladies. Just click on the button to the right to view or download this presentation.
I have been trying to come up with ideas of other ways we can continue to stay in touch. Perhaps small gatherings held by each chapter and led by a member who could share an interesting topic or collection. These would also have restrictions to size and location. Any ideas would be most welcomed.
In the meantime, take a few minutes to enjoy these photos of your fellow Vintage Ladies who have volunteered their time and creativity. Thank you to the ladies who have offered to be our leaders, and to those who have done so in the past year. A toast to you! And a special thanks to Susan for taking the time to put this presentation together.
My prayers and thoughts are with any Member who has experienced a tragedy during this time of distancing. I sincerely hope that we and our loved ones stay well, and this strange time will be a but a memory in the coming months.
To end on a lighter note: Quarantine has me realizing why dogs get so excited about something moving outside or going for walks and car rides.
I just stood at the window and barked at a squirrel.

We do know that an enormous national and world effort is underway to try to contain the spread of this virus and Wow have things changes since my last greeting to you in March!
We have learned how to stay home and stay busy doing things that we have put off. The kitchen drawers have been cleaned, clothes from closets sorted for donation, and lots of cooking! My husband and I are walking daily and creating new routines.
How many of you pulled out your sewing machine to make masks, and who would have thought toilet paper was our new currency!
We have missed seeing family and friends, but this has prompted us to learned new and creative ways to reach out to them. We have enjoyed outdoor social distancing “get-togethers” and I now know how to do a Zoom meeting to see the kids and grandkids faces.
With our Vintage Ladies meetings canceled, the election of officers was done online, and our June luncheon has, at this time, been postponed until September. Congratulations and best wishes to all those newly elected and to those who have graciously agreed to continue in their positions for another year.
2020/2021 will be different for all of us. The key thing to keep in mind is that we don’t know what will happen.
We look forward to the time when we can all gather again, mingle with friends, and enjoy an interesting speaker or presentation. Let us hope and say a prayer that this will be soon.
Stay tuned!

I am ready to welcome the first day of Spring, which will be on March 19th 2020.
As we start the New Year 2020 we can be thankful for many things, and one of these is that we have the comradery of our fellow Vintage Ladies. I have learned of a few of our members who have had illnesses or surgeries. Please, if you know of any of our Vintage Ladies who may need a little cheer, pass this on to your chapter’s sunshine person or to me. We will do our best to recognize their needs and offer support.
February marked the 22nd anniversary of the Vintage Ladies of St. James! Congratulations to all of you for continuing to support and maintain this Club.
The programs to date have shown that we follow our philosophy of loving antiques and collectables and learning more about the history of the area we now call home.
Don’t forget to share your program photos to Susan Harman for our website. I hope that you frequently visit the Vintage Ladies website; vintageladiesofstjames.com. The Jackies and Abbies have done a great job of sharing monthly meeting photos.
I am looking forward to March thru May’s programs and our June Annual Luncheon. With all that we have to look forward to, our time goes by so quickly.

“Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away.”

Hello ladies. We've had a very busy quarter, and our executive board has voted on some important changes that I want to share with you.
It was discussed and voted that the Vintage Ladies of St. James would no longer be participating in the joint meetings with the Virginia and Maryland Chapters. Our executive board thoroughly discussed this, and concluded that due to various factors such as cost, distance, and lack of participation, we would not continue with these events. Jane Warren, our Executive Secretary, did a great job of notifying the Virginia and Maryland Chapters of our decision. It turns out that we are not the only group to make this choice. The Vintage Ladies of Williamsburg, Virginia and Lady Anne of Anne Arundel, Maryland, made this same decision.
November meeting brought the review and approval of several changes made to the Articles which were last updated in 2012. These changes were made to help clarify chapter positions, add the new position of Executive Newsletter Chair and references to include the Vintage Ladies website.
A copy of the Revised 2019 Articles is now posted on the VL website in the Members Only section.
At the meeting, Susan Harman, our Executive Newsletter Chair, discussed the use of our new website and the advantage of having this as a source for information to Vintage Ladies members. Susan said that she is willing to assist any of our members with the use of the website. Please reach out to her.
Unfortunately, the September joint meeting was cancelled due to Hurricane Dorian. The October and November programs that each Chapter held were fun and interesting. The December programs will be party/luncheon plans for each of the Chapters.
I send wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving, a very Merry Christmas and good health in the New Year 2020.

I hope that summer has been good to all - whether it was enjoying visits from family and friends or doing some extra traveling or beach time.
I feel honored that I was asked to be your Executive Director, and look forward to working with my fellow Executive and Chapter Officers in the coming year. This is a wonderful club, and I am very glad to be a part of it. Since joining in 2016, I quickly found out how both enjoyable and enlightening Vintage Ladies Programs are. Oh, forgot to mention fun!
Dolleys, Abbies and Jackies, my hopes are to attend as many of your activities as possible and meet more of our members. I truly value the friendships that I have been made belonging to the Vintage Ladies of St. James.
I am excited to share this coming 2019-2020 year exploring historical events, antiques, fun and friendships with all of you.
September will begin with the introduction of our new VL website, a great communications tool for all of us. As the 1959 song goes “I’ll see you in September”.

Dear Vintage Ladies of St James,
The June Luncheon was a lovely event for closing the celebration of our 20th Year. Thank you to the Abbies Chapter for their hard work in planning and organizing the event for this year.
This meeting was an opportunity for me to thank all officers that served on the Executive Board, which includes all Chapter officers, for their leadership and service in the positions they held in VL 2018-2019. The Installation Ceremony officially announced the new officers for 2019-2020 and passed the duties of those offices to the newly elected officers with a list of their duties and a rose as congratulations.
As retiring Executive Chair I want all the membership to know that it was a privilege and an honor to represent our organization in this position. A special thank you to the Executive officers and chapter officers for your cooperation and for taking responsibilities for your duties. I have enjoyed working with all of you and getting to spend time with members developing new friendships.
Thank all of you for the gift card I received at the ceremony, I will enjoy exploring the new shop Sodona South. I deeply appreciate this gift as it will be a reminders of this special year with VL
Vintage Ladies of St James you are an amazing group of women the "Treasures" of our organization.
Thank you
Pat Tucker, Retiring Executive Chair VL of St James
Thank you so much for the generous gift to one of my favorite shops in Southport. I was touched and overwhelmed with your thoughtfulness to recognize my years as Membership Chair. (I believe it was 10 years and thought it was time to have someone else step in!) Pat will do a wonderful job … of that I am sure.
I always felt it was an easy job to reach out to someone interested in joining such a wonderful and diverse group of women. I have served in different capacities for Vintage Ladies over the years, but Imust say, this was my favorite!
Thank you , also, for the loving messages on the card… again, I was touched beyond measure. May we all continue to learn about our heritage and enjoy the camaraderie & friendship along the way, and embrace new members.
Many, many, thanks,
Linda Boretti
Former Membership Chair
Dear Vintage Ladies
Happy Spring!
We are almost at the end of another successful year for the Vintage Ladies of
St. James Plantation. The program committees have provided a wide range of interesting speakers and fun, educational outings. We enjoyed two joint meetings this year and plan for more in the future. Also a keepsake Yearbook was provided this year with invaluable information. A new Yearbook will be ready for distribution at our October meeting. In addition, the Articles were revised to reflect our current procedures. Check them out here on the website under Archives. Our website has been redesigned and updated so that it is always a source of accurate program information.
It has been a busy two years while I have had the honor of serving as Executive Chair. Thank you to every board member! You have made my job easier and very rewarding. I am constantly amazed at the talents, thoughtfulness and commitment of all our members. We are truly a diverse group of
intelligent women. It has been a privilege to get to know so many of you
and to work with you.
Keep in mind, Vintage Ladies, with programs, authors and day trips on local history, antiques, and collectibles, runs on the energy and creativity of its members. While you are enjoying all the activities, please consider how you can contribute and become more involved in our club! When the nominating committee calls to ask for your participation, I hope you will say YES! You will find that being an active member of Vintage Ladies is a rewarding experience. And remember to invite your friends and neighbors to one of our monthly meetings - they are always welcome, and they may want to
become a member as well.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our 2023 Celebration Brunch and installation of officers on June 2 at the Members Club hosted by the Abbies.

Greetings Dolleys!
Despite some recent cold snaps, spring really is just around the corner! 🌷 We have some terrific events coming your way, thanks to our dedicated program committee members—Debby Smith, Teresa Miller and Jan Brown.
We are so thankful to our guest speaker, Ben Ulevich, who provided us with
wonderful insights into Orton Plantation Gardens 🌺🌸 on February 3rd. It would be great if someone would be so inclined to write a brief summary of Ben’s presentation. It was incredible, and his slide show showed all the transformation of all the gardens, buildings, homes, and even the resident alligator. Keep checking our website page for updates and photos of all our events.
Next up for Dolleys is on the second Friday of the month on March 10th (Note: a week later than our normal monthly date) at the SJCommunity Center and that will be “Five Generations of Fishermen” from 10-12 at our Community Center. 🦐🐠 Royce Potter will be our guest speaker and will explain Potters Seafood, an institution in Southport that has been selling local seafood since 1899! Details to follow in an upcoming email.
It’s already time to start thinking about the April 14th Rice Plantation Riverboat Tour as seats are limited to 34. The cost is $95 which includes transportation, snacks and admission. Teresa has reserved a bus from Trips by Patty and we will be departing from St. James lower parking lot at 8 am sharp. The River Boat will cruise past 5 Plantation homes while listening to a historical presentation of the rice growing era. Lunch and shopping will be at Market Commons in Myrtle Beach. Please RSVP to Teresa Miller at: teresamiller19@gmail.com if you are interested in attending. We already have a list of 15 ladies from our last meeting who are tentatively planning on going and sign-ups will be in mid March.
Please start thinking of volunteering for the positions of Co-Chairs and three Program committee members. The current group of officers will give you guidance and ideas for future programs.
It was a unanimous vote to have refreshments at all of our meetings that are held at our Community Center and if anyone would like to volunteer to serve on our Hospitality Committee along with Hertha Essman and Gretchen Booth, please let Hertha know at: hertha45@icloud.com or Gretchen Booth at: Zepe46@hotmail.com
We hope everyone is enjoying their Yearbooks that our Webmaster extraordinaire, Brenda Wityk put together, along with using and appreciate our website (www.vintageladiesofstjames.com) which Brenda maintains. If you did not yet receive your copy of our yearbook, please contact Jeannie Schneider at: schneiderjandj@gmail.com.
We have our end of the year Luncheon on June 2 nd at Members Club! It will be a great event to applaud all our past officers and welcome all of our new.
On that note we also want to welcome our newest members: Jean Wylen, Kathy
Cooke, and Deb Gardner.
Please keep us posted as to what’s going on in your life and families. The more we
share with one another the more close knit community we become! Remember Dolley had many close and beloved friends!!
