Dear Vintage Ladies:
“I love everything that is old, old friends, old times, old manners, old books…” Oliver Goldsmith
and, I especially love antiques, collectables and history !
It’s TRUE!! I do love all things “old”. Reminds me of the old Girl Scout song – “Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other’s gold”. We get the best of both worlds with Vintage Ladies, being a part of this club affords us the opportunity to treasure the old, while making new friends and experiences.
Speaking of silver… it is the 25thAnniversary of the Vintage Ladies of Saint James this year. A huge thank you to our founders Dottie Baker and Pat Bittenbinder for their vision to start the group in October of 1998 with the first meeting in December which had 27 women in attendance.
Could they have even imagined the club would grow to
3 chapters and 125 plus members while sitting around Dottie’s kitchen table discussing their idea?
Vintage Ladies celebrated the 25thAnniversary, with a kick-off joint chapter meeting on September 8th honoring Dottie and Pat with a special cake and certificates were given to commemorate their 25 years of dedication. Our three chapters put together outstanding presentations entitled
“Fashions Worn by our Three First Ladies”.
The chapter program chairs have worked hard to plan an exciting year. Please check the events schedule here on the website for monthly updates. The January joint program was hosted by the Abbies. “The Lady of the House Divided: An Everyday Civil War Woman” was very interesting and well attended. Brenda Wityk was honored at the meeting for volunteering many hours as our Webmaster and designing and updating the Yearbook for Vintage Ladies. Bett Lewis had new Vintage Ladies pins made by a local potter for those who would like to purchase one. They were available at the meeting and if you missed them, give Bett Lewis a call to purchase one.
Thank you to ALL our leadership volunteers who create these experiences
for us and those that make our club run smoothly – without your time, creativity and talents, this club would not exist.
We have so many great programs and gatherings to look forward to including the April bus trip to Hopsewee Plantation and Old Georgetown. Please check the website or Yearbook on how to sign up for this wonderful bus trip.
I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as your Executive Chair.
